1) Log out before closing your laptop lid. Your screen should start
normally when you log in next.
2) If after opening your laptop and logging in you get a black screen,
open TTY1 by pressing
CTRL + ALT + F1.

Pressing FN + Left (dim screen hot key) dims the screen but also
launches Display settings winow.
FN + Right correctly brightens the screen without launching Display

I agree with scott symmank above. Every time I log on to my Acer
AspireOne that little notification bubble pops up and won't go away --
even though I am connected to a wireless network. The only way to get of
it is to click the X to close it.
Every. Single. Log in. Very annoying.

After hibernating and attempting to resume, the screen goes black and
shows some scratchy color marks before freezing up entirely. Only a hard
reset fixes the problem, whereupon I get the kernel crash report error
thing.

Same problem here with a Gateway laptop and Synaptic touchpad. After
resuming from a suspend, the touchpad doesn't work at all. Hibernating
doesn't affect the trackpad. I have had this problem for almost three
years now.
