Tiwai's suggestion is the following:
"OK, could you try to add the following to /lib/firmware/alsa/test

... and add patch module option to snd-hda-intel, e.g. put the following
in /etc/modprobe.d/50-hda.conf:
options snd-hda-intel
There are no problems with sound quality after the crackle is heard but
it can be reliably reproduced on every startup or resume from suspend.

I hear a loud crackling sound whenever the login screen appears. There
is also a crackling sound when the notebook wakes from suspend and an

This system was upgrade from 15.04 to 15.10 using the system updater.

Using tracker-search clone:
1 results, the output is only the path to the file, nothing else.
Using the tracker search tool, query string clone:
364 results, nothing displayed in the list, hits in several categoies.
Likewise results with any query string.

@BeSt: I don't think the deb works, the patch I used is essentially the
same as QuinnStorm's and is architecturally neutral.
I don't think kmix needs to be fixed, this seems to be a problem with
sound card drivers for me.
The current state of this in my case is kind of confusing. My channels
Muting is just a DCOP call to kmix setMasterMute, I think it is an
ALSA issue. The master channel that you have chosen in kmix can be muted
troycauble?
