I am sorry, I am not at home at the moment so I can't report a new bug,
however I did not install xfce or xubuntu-desktop, but Xubuntu OS from

Same thing happens to me as well. No WM, can't type into Alt+F2, but use
synaptics instead. Don't know if this is relevant but t is started
happening after I installed Sound Juicer through Ubuntu software center.
And I agree, this is quite a problematic bug, should be high priority!

Guess what, just as I finished posting it happened again! While I was working,
so I guess it's probably not a screensaver issue (at least not for me). But
everything did lock up, now that I think about it I think it was downloading
updates every time it happened, I'm not sure...hmm c
