Confirmed this bug. pppoeconf assumes eth0 will be configured manually,
while it is usually dhcp in most cases.

This bug can be fixed in this way.
su...@h3x:~$ sudo vim /etc/network/interfaces
Then change the file so that instead of
iface eth0 inet manual
The line contains
iface eth0 inet dhcp
Then save and exit. The problem should be fixed now.

I reproduced the bug using a short login l. OpenOffice.org 2.4 stops
responding when load/open/save dialogs are used for more than 75
seconds. Bug Confirmed.
