I've been testing for a couple of days in Maverick and it seems a big
improvement. No disconnection or transfer bitrate fall at the moment.

I had the same problem. The solution was to close KNetworkManager.
Konqueror wasn't connecting to internet either and I read in Ubuntu forums that
killing KNetworkManager it will connect. I close it and then konqueror work
fine and kopete also connect to MSN.
