Exact same problem here. When I run audacity with the jack server run,
audacity crashes on startup and crashes jack. I get this:

Well, it seems like my problem was with the Gutsy live CD. For whatever
reason, my hardware didn't like Ubuntu or Kubuntu 7.1 or Suse 10.3 but
worked with Ubuntu 7.04 and Kubuntu 6.06.

Similar problem here, but mine's definitely driver related. Mplayer
worked fine when I first installed Ubuntu, but after installing my
graphics driver, the colours in MPlayer and Xine are messed-up.
