I have the same laptop, and while on Linux 5.17 I never witnessed the touchpad fail "randomly", I found a consistent way to make it fail: suspend the computer, close the lid, and wake it up while the lid is closed (a way to do so is by plugging/unplugging the charger). Et voilĂ , the touchpad won't work, but it will work again by suspending the computer another time and waking it up with the lid open.
