This is a real pain for me as I set 101 variables to point to
directories I want to get at and am in the habit of typing
$foodir/abctab to get what I want and now I can't do it so well.

Sorry I had to give up and go back to 10.10 so many things didn't work.
The list of things - k3b, kate to name the first 2 things I tried which
make the X server crash is just too long.
Please let me know when the thing is debugged.

I am running an AMD-64 with an NVidia GEForce graphics card in twin screen mode.
It seems to work OK (after some trouble getting Unity to work) but as soon as I
start the VirtualBox Manager window the X server
