examination of the code shows that it is there in the Ubuntu source
package. Someone that actually maintains this will know more of why it

Tried adding the params Guillaume suggested in #3. Didn't work for my
systems. Reverting to 0.6.1-2 does. Just hope unattended-updates
doesn't overwrite it.

Nevermind -- turns out the workaround utilizing xinput set-prop still
works, the device ID had changed. Nevertheless, this is a frustrating
issue and seemingly simple request that this should just work as it
always did. Where are the unit tests to prevent these constant

I just heard about this bug, thought it was an old monitor I had, but
wasn't.
Now here's the rub. I have an x86 system that started showing this
issue when I upgraded to Precise from Lucid (32bit only for old reasons
- will reimage when I get a chance to backup 500G worth of development
stuff).
I was able to reproduce this issue on an x86_64 Core2Duo system with a
fresh 12.04 install & updates. After it crashed, I ran 'sudo dpkg
--configure -a' and the postinst script ran fine.

Used a daily image from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-server/daily-preinstalled. Ran through entire
config process. Observed color change at oem-config-remove step.
Logged in and installed the necessary oem-conf
