I just tried the latest linux-alsa-driver-modules-2.6.32-21-generic (and
removed the backport modules first). Unfortunately still no mic input,
it stays completely muted. Sound output on the other hand, works
flawlessly.

it's a fresh install (did not upgrade from previously installed 9.10), there's
no vmware workstation installed on it - that's pretty much what I try to
achieve but fail, the installer crashes.
It's a 32bit installation running on a i7. The vmware version I tried is 7.0.

I cannot run vmware, it is not installed yet and the installer crashes.
I looked through the files the installer creates in /tmp but I didn't find any
of those files, so I'm unfortunately stuck. I'd appreciate a lot any help to
fix this.
I run lucid with kernel 2.6.32-20-generic

stressing my system showed me the usual high cpu usage (xorg up to 90%).
I added
Option "UseEvents" "on"
to xorg.conf and It looks like I'm fine now, even when stressing my
system.
