I suddenly had this issue today. Evolution wouldn't go anywhere.
I opened up the System Monitor and killed evolution-alarm-notify, and
that made everything load up. It looks like that's what's freezing.
I am on Karmic x64.

I like to add that I have had the exact same issue on both Firefox and
Thunderbird. I also use Gutsy, scim and anthy.
