Ubuntu 18.04 NVidia driver gnome desktop with 2 monitors.
My workaround for removing the frozen pointer is going to displays in
settings/devices config and select mirror screen. It is not necessary to
complete the change, just revert back to the previous configuration.

Same issue for me. Power consumption ~10W higher than normal on intel
mode since some update around that happened around this past month.

If is the only one which starts with an specified letter, won't show it
with grep. Example: if there is only a directory starting with 'w', ls
-l | grep ^[w] won't show it. With ls -l w* happens the same problem. I
think you should check.

Sorry for the delay, this was not my computer but Marta's one.
This computer was bought recently and installed directly with Ubuntu 16.04 in
dual boot with Windows.
So no previous kernel version was tested.
Even Ubuntu 16.04 CD install media needed kernel parameter acpi=off to boot.

I have the same symtoms but on a volume that is not root.
I also can resize lv from cli (with lvextend and resize2fs, but not with the
system-config-lvm gui.
I confirm with lsof, fuser, umount and stoping services related with the volume
that there was nothing using it.
