The alsamixer and bios were set correctly. I followed every relevant
step in the Debugging Sound Problems link.
When I ran the operating system from the live cd,everything worked fine.
Realizing everybody working on this,many of whom are volunteers,are
working against a deadline
Several days ago,I attempted SystemAdministrationSystem Testing,got a
report,and tried to submit it. It would not connect.
This morning,I repeated the test,(including the part where it showed my
sound card,asked me to test,and I got no sound at all).
I send it,and this time it connected but it

It turns,and this is embarrassing,that I simply had not disabled the AC
97 on board sound. When I disabled that,that sound worked fine.

Hello,
Unbunto 8.10,up to date.
I start a new thread because this involves the Nvidia drivers and
tvtime.
When I installed II,it correctly detected and set the screen resolution
and refresh speed. I tried to load the recommended Nvidia proprietary
driver,but it would not
My motherboard came with on board AC '97,which I uninstalled in XP with
the add/remove programs function. The added soundblaster card worked
fine.
When I got into Unbuntu,I learned to disable the internal audio in the
Bios. I did so. It is working fine now.
