Thanks very much for your support.
I just gave up fighting city hall and distribute my own debian with
bltwish in it.
IMO if you arbitrarily pull something out of a standard distributed
package that developers and/or users expect to be there, you broke it. In
this case I can't see what harm it w

This works flawlessly (testing with Beryl that I compiled from source
code I still had).
Thanks!!

Even without Compiz (or Beryl), the same problem arises if you turn
desktop effects compositing on (drop shadow on windows and so forth).
May I humbly suggest the offending patch simply be removed?

I've seen on various mailing lists users of fedora core complaining of
this bug since January of this year. So I don't think nvidia is going to
feel any urgency implementing a fix.
I'm happy to test debian packages BTW, if there is any further need.

I should add recompiling the svn of Beryl I grabbed a few months ago
(i.e., on that used to work) made no difference.

This cured two bugs! My second slave drive was not mounting, and now it
does.

Also had this problem with Gutsy alpha 5. I had evms installed (along
with evms-ncurses). No idea how, when or why.
I've been killing and restarting this process manually. I hope this
clears up the problem as it has for others. Thanks for the tip.

Device-mapper errors: dm-linear, lookup
It's very easy to reproduce:
1. Upgrade to Gutsy and (re)install the latest nvidia drivers.
2. Install the distributed compiz-fusion
3. Run glxgears
FWIW I have heard of this happening on FC since at least January of this
year.

I also got bit by this bug when I upgraded to tribe 5 Gutsy. Prior to
that I was running Beryl with glx programs and all was well. After the
upgrade, the Beryl version (which I had previously compiled from source
code I grabbed from subversion repositories) was also problematic. The
