desktop installation of 64-bit Kubuntu Lucid. The access-point is not

GNU/Linux . No sounds in Pidgin. System Load Viewer shows CPU at 100%
RAM at 38%. Karmic worked quite well using kernel 2.6.31-13-generic

I have a very similar problem to dafrabbit on 2007-08-25. I'm using
Ubuntu 7.10 Alternative Tribe 5.
1. GDM ready sound is not playing. As he suggested,
System->Administration->Login Window->Accessibility and choosing a
sound (question.wav) results in it working.

I'm having a similar problem in Kubuntu with nvidia=glx. The card is a nVIDIA
GeForce4 MX440-SE. As long as I've not tried to use the nVIDIA drivers, it
works fine. Soon as I try to install the proprietary nVIDIA ones, it won't load
KDM.
