I have done some more testing, and as you say DVD-s work fine. My previous cdr-s were burnt with wodim 1.1.2 (debian etch) and wodim 1.1.8. I did some more testing today on the SH-S203P drive. I did both a BIOS upgrade, tried to to experiment with setting SATA to compatible mode in BIOS and disabling memory remapping. Also tried to boot with acpi=off noapic nolapic nohz=off pci=nomsi settings (and a combination of those), but it didn't

I just rebooted the computer with the Samsung SH-S183A drive, and it gives me the same medium error with the same sectors. This computer has another Asus motherboard, althoug it's Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe, so it's entirely different. Yes, this happens on different cdr-media. I find it higly unlikely tha

I'm experiencing the same kind of errors while trying to install Ubuntu 8.10 release. I have tried both i386 and amd64. The issue occurs during boot from the cd, and no matter what I do I get a medium error with error messages exactly as those draimus listed. I have tried differend media, different
