Can also confirm that downgrading the package solves the issue.
Also found a way to reproduce the bug (on a Lenovo T420s):
1. Boot, set the cursor to an empty space on the desktop
2. Quickly toggle the touchpad enable/disable button (Fn+F8) while
simultaneously tapping the touchpad
3. The bug
Just to make it more google friendly:
When you install the doxygen package and want to create a pdf
file from its latex output, you'll get the cryptic errors below.
These are caused by missing fonts.
As a workaround, install texlive-fonts-recommended.
Example error messages:
kpathsea: Running mkt
blacklist the pcspkr module.
Decide if you want to release a new kernel because of this, and feel free to
close this report.

And found the reason: It's the pcspkr module.
Unloading it solves the hangs on the intrepid kernel. Not sure if it's the same
issue as with the Hardy kernel, but
the symptoms are very similar.
Would be good to know what's the reason though.
There's also a related bug #146151 .

Just tried Intrepid, issue still exists with 2.6.27-7.
Can be triggered in various ways, e.g. hitting tab for bash auto-completion in
a VT.
It's most probably not X related, as it also happens when X is not running.
Nothing in the logs, no led blinking, magic SysRq doesn't work.

Yes, you're right.
Seems like this is a duplicate of Bug #209220.
That bug says fix released on 04/19, but it's still not OK here.
Hpijs-ppds is installed, the HP ppd-s are in /usr/share/ppd/hpijs/, but
kdeprint doesn't seem to care about them.

Hardy: HP Officejet 5600 not available in device
Sorry, but you seem to misunderstand the problem.
The printer is working fine even through the network (once configured through
CUPS).
The main problem is, that the kde printer setup is not showing all the device
models that are available through CUPS.
Even if i select 'Local printer', there are
Hm. Configuring through the CUPS webinterface works (localhost:631).
I've specified the URI (socket://192.168.1.1:9100), selected HP, and there are
a lot more models selectable (inclusive the OJ5600) than in the KDE printer
setup.
Seems like the KDE printer setup app doesn't fetch the device lis
I'm trying KDE->System Settings->Printers->Add Printer/Class->Network
Printer (TCP)->192.168.1.1:9100->Printer Model selection-> OJ5600 not in
the list...
"hp-setup -i 192.168.1.1" asks for the connection type, when I select
Network, it says 'No devices found'.
Please note that this is not a Netw
I've posted a separate bug on this (Bug #227806).
Short summary:
- 2.6.24-16/17 lock up with acpi enabled (they are stable with acpi=off)
- Intrepid 2.6.25-1 works OK

Just some clarification:
- The device list is not empty, there are a lots of devices I'm just missing my
OJ5600 which was in the list in Gutsy
- Connecting the printer directly via USB works fine, it got auto-detected and
auto-installed without a problem

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: hplip
I've tried to install a networked HP Officejet 5600 printer in KDE Systems
Settings, but the model is not appearing in the model selection list.
It was available under Gusty and worked fine.
** Affects: hplip (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.24
The system locks-up completely at random intervals.
The crash can be triggered by downloading mail with Thunderbird, but happens at
any other activity after some random time.
No magic SysRq keys works, and there's nothing in the logs.
