Although I am confirming this bug, I believe that problem resides in
mencoder or liblame as devede doesn't do any encoding itself.

I've exactly the same problem...anyway I presume it's a problem
dependent by codecs, cause also listening music (mp3 or ogg) there is a
distorted audio growing up the volume

was in the x86 Kubuntu 7.04.
Have just done a fresh install of an AMD64 Kubuntu 7.04 & encoded an
.avi to a DVD with no audio distortion so the bug is in only the x86 of
Feisty.
