The easy workaround is a download
( http://packages.ubuntu.com/jaunty/sshfs )
and install jaunty packages (i.e. sudo gdebi sshfs_2.1-1_i386.deb)
Please, will sometime somebody fix this stupid bug ?

I also experienced this bug when I upgraded to 8.10, but I can report
that sshfs version 2.2 builds fine after the dependencies are met and
the bug doesn't exist with it either.

This bug does not exist if one upgrades to SSHFS 2.1, in which case the
size is shown correctly

So the question now is can we get sshfs 2.1 into Intrepid or backport
the working code for this issue.

Same here, since upgrading to Intrepid. The changelog [1] suggests that
the correct amount of free space is shown if OpenSSH = 5.1 is
installed, but regardless of that I still get 0.0k free.

Whilst this was fine in Hardy (at least, it showed 1TB free), it is
broken again in Intrepid and now shows 0.0K. Nautilus could copy files
to sshfs mounts as it always saw free space in Hardy -- under Intrepid
it refuses, as it sees no space.
