Hi, I have a bug with exactly the same symptoms.
I'm also running Ubuntu 12.04, some of the specs:
Uname: Linux 3.2.0-24-generic x86_64
Package: linux-image-3.2.0-24-generic 3.2.0-24.39
Apport version: 2.0.1-0ubuntu8
ALSA version: 1.0.25
CUPS version: libcups2:i386 1.5.3-0ubuntu1
Proprietary modu
Hello,
I installed the 3.4 Kernel, but i'm unable to have the Nvidia driver
working...
It is now disabled, and no update or installation can be done without error.
Some advice ?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.4kernel[1] (Not a kernel in the daily directory). Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag(Only that
Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.
