Stephen Helden, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/c

When migrating from release 11.10 to 12.04, I attempted it, (a couple
of times), through the "Update Manager", but each time encountered a
fatal error. I then created a "live 12.04" boot CD, and migrated by
initiating a full install. When running 12.04 and using the Ubuntu
drop-down menu, and selec
The 3.4 kernel is the kernel for 12.10(Quantal) and not 12.04(Precise).
Update Manager should not have installed the 3.4 kernel. Did you
download the 3.4 kernel manually?
Since you tested the 3.4 kernel, it appears this bug is fixed upstream.
