If you really need your scanner as much as you say you do, I'd kindly
suggest to research device support by sane before your next purchase.
http://www.sane-project.org/lists/sane-mfgs-cvs.html#Z-SAMSUNG does not
list your model even for the developmental branch. A search on google
seems to suggest

can you please run "sudo scanimage -L" from the command line in your
current installation?
If you have a chance, can you please test scanning from a live CD for
precise and raring to see if it's working there?
