3.5.7-03050703-generic and -3.7.0-030700rc2.
For me, it's not as bad as 9 out of 10, though. Maybe 3/4 or something

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.5kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both the
linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.
Once you've tested the upstream
This also happens using the proprietary nvidia driver from standard repo or
from x-swat repo.
A lot more than just this Thinkpad type laptop are probably affected.
