Hi Sandra and everyone. This appears to be the problem originally
reported in bug 1015216, so I will mark this one as a duplicate of that.

I have this same issue and would like to know if there is a way to fix
it? I am experiencing the same distortion but not just in software
center and I have Ubuntu installed not running live DVD. I seen where
someone mentioned it might be a ram issue well I am running 16gb of DDR3
and tested it thor

How much memory does your computer have? If it's lower than 2GB, this
might be a RAM issue. Software Center can be pretty resource-intensive
and for example, programs on my computer are like a hot knife throught
butter, but Software Center lags quite a bit.
