I had the same problem! Then I just started the launchpad in the terminal with:
ubuntuone-control-panel-qt
and it works just fine till now.
I know it does not solve the bug itself, but this is the first forum post
you'll find googling the bug, so I think it will be nice to find a way to avoid
it
I also still get this error on 12.04 fully up to date.
This was reported nearly a year ago...

After not using ubuntu one for almost a year, because of problems back
then, I though I would give it another shot.
Too bad I encounter this exact error almost 5 months after this initial
bug report.
Tried this on a fully up to dat precise install and get the error as
described by the initial rep
Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.
