Please let your installer crash file your own bug with your own logs
instead of reopening someone else's.

Maybe this should be an enhancement request then. I don't want to touch
my hard disk. And if the live CD ISO can boot from a USB stick, why
can't Ubuntu itself not launch from an USB stick?
Also, if it is not supported, why can I select this option in the
installer as if it is supported?

BTW: When I read the original bug more carefully it looks like someone is
trying to install the boot loader on the very same USB stick as the live CD.
This is not what I was trying; I did the following instead:
* one SD card with Live CD
* one empty USB stick to install Ubuntu on.
