I see this on Ubuntu 16.04. I get write speeds of 100kb/s while copying
files to an NTFS external USB 3 drive, compared to 75MB/s on Windows.
Remounting the external drive with big_writes does raise speed somewhat,
but only to 5MB/s max, still an order of magnitude low.

Title:
USB IO excruciatingly slow on NTFS with dell xp
I'm on Ubuntu 12.10 (x86 as recommended).
copying files to a USB3 stick formatted as FAT gives me ~32MB/s. Same
USB3 stick formatted as NTFS gives me ~1MB/s.

Version of ntfs-3g is "1:2012.1.15AR.1-1ubuntu1" btw.
Also, I tried remounting the high speed NTFS as read-only, resulting in
a 5-10% improvement.
Sadly, I must conclude that NTFS is currently unusable for me.

Chris
