I'm getting the _ or blank characters issue. It only happens on my
second monitor, not primary screen on my laptop. X driver is nvidia.
Moving the mouse over the menu items, they get repainted and fixed up.

I should add that my system font is Tahoma but changing the font doesn't
help. This bug is especially evident with the _ character which is not
displayed at all.
