got the same dmesg output as in #2 on 12.04, 3.4-rc1 does work, 3.4.3
3.5 don't. Note: self-built kernel!
updating the xorg-video-intel driver from 2.17 to 2.20 didn't yield any
improvement!

Do you know if this issue happened in a previous version of Ubuntu, or
is this a new issue?
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.5kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and
I think there have been similar problems on this machine for some time
(unfortunately I haven't had the time to look into it properly before
now).
I think the last good kernel I have used is 3.2.0-16, I have kept that
around and boot using it when I need to be sure of uptime and it seems
to work
