I got my system working again by: 1. Loading failsafe X 2. Downloading and installing the latest fglrx 3. Rebooted (but then Wine wouldn't start - this is usually a sign that fglrx is NOT installed) 4. Installed the fglrx-updates packages 5. Rebooted I'm back to normal for now AFAICT. This does
