I am still experiencing this issue since updating earlier today. The
system does ultimately boot after the long pauses, and everything works
with the exception of an encrypted partition which I am unable to map.
uname -a
Linux dddlaptop 2.6.20-10-386 #2 Sun Mar 11 23:59:49 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux

I can confirm that the problem is gone after an upgrade from
archive.ubuntu.com made an hour or so ago.

Further details: After timing out as described in the initial comment,
it continues with
* Starting eary crypt disks...
...done
* Setting up LVM Volume Groups
After that, the bootup sequence seems to continue normally.
To summarize: It first pauses for a very long time after "Assembling MD
arra
evms 2.5.5-18ubuntu2 is installed. I've never used any evms commands,
though
If you have any other information you need, don't hesitate to ask. I'm
not afraid to do things like modifying initrd images, kernel parameters,
etc.

Update: The machine actually manages to boot after a long pause (I went
away for a while, and now it's up), and is fully functional with all LVM
PVs available and mounted.
