Actually, I do have some more info:
My host is still Precise (12.04.1), I upgraded one of my VMs to 12.10.
Now that VM refuses to boot and shows the same symptoms: black screen
with high CPU usage.
All other VMs still work fine.
I'm considering upgrading my host to 12.10 but I'm a little wary.

I cant use View -> Text Console -> Text console 1 in Virt-Manager.
Ubuntu-Server, as i know, After "Hello Screen" goes to text mode installation
and how are you going to get text mode instal

I'm on vacation and will get back to you on this bug when I'm back at work
(beginning of September).
KVM is working, I have other VMs working just fine, I'll get the output of
the kvm-ok command when I'm back at my (work) PC.

OK, this is a problem with 12.04 server i386 not behaving well with the
virtual hardware presented to it.
If I enable a serial console, I get the following output:
