My feisty install was an dist-upgrade from dapper -> edgy and then, after a
while (three weeks ago) from edgy -> feisty.
I always thought that one day one of dappers remainings would be some sort of
trap thats just waiting around the next corner to bring me into trouble after
a dist-upgrade ;)
Removing evms solved the problem here too. It also solved another
problem I had for some weeks. The hald took very long to start so the
splash screen timed out and showed the console.

He suggested to check if evms was installed on my desktop machine and to remove
it if it's installed because that fixed this strange
To add some information:
/ and /boot are standard linux partitions. /usr, /tmp, /usr/local, /home
are logical volumes.
It seems that vgscan hangs when using the option --mknodes

I can confirm this problem. After updating yesterday my machine hangs
today at the lvm init script. It hangs on line 53 (/sbin/vgscan
$IGNORELOCKINGFAILURES $MKNODES >/dev/null 2>&1 || true) in the
/etc/init.d/lvm script. A short workaround was to change this line to
/sbin/vgscan without the option
I was having the exact same issue with my LVM setup for two days, but
todays updates fixed the issue for me.
