There were several fixes for crash bugs applied to CUPS recently, can
you update your system (cups 1.6.1-0ubuntu10) and see whether the crash
goes away?

Hit this crash sometime during apt-get upgrade. The avahi-daemon was
running but not taking 100%. Set LogLevel=debug2 and attempted a print
operation, no failure.

I cannot reproduce this bug.
Do you have avahi-daemon running? Does avahi-daemon take 100% CPU?
Please run the command
cupsctl LogLevel=debug2
and try to reproduce the problem. As soon as it occurs again, attach
your error_log to this bug report.
