I have the same WiFi adapter and, when I ping my router I get similar results:

Actually, it is still here. I noticed something different today,
perhaps the compat-wireless workaround was conflated.
Ping times are fine, when AC (mains) power is plugged in. When I'm on
battery is when the ping times go up to 500+ms.

Connection type : 2.4Ghz 802.11n (I tryed changing to 802.11g and this
