Those Fontconfig warnings are a part of a different bug:
#1034928 Fontconfig warning: Having multiple values in isn't supported
and may not works as expected
So the rest looks exactly the same.

Now that I am back in front of my laptop, here is the error message I am
seeing, which has slight differences from the OP (same message, whether
run under sudo or not):

I also encountered this on my second fresh Quantal installation, taken
from the Monday 20 Aug night's 'current' build, affecting a Compaq
NC6320 laptop. My main installation on a desktop, running with daily
updates since ~Alpha-2, shows no such issues.

Can you run from console
apt-get update
and then
apt-get dist-upgrade
and report back if this happends after a system newstart again?
