Public bug reported: I upgraded a 32 bit 10.04.4 box to 12.04.1 yesterday. The upgrade ran without an serious issues. The only "odd" thing was two pop-ups which had no text, only small squares where the letters should have been.
AMD processor with Nvidia chipset. Propriatary Nvidia driver installed. I have been working through issues with it. I have determined that lightdm is causing segmentation faults. It is also leaving zombie processes. Some users cannot log in. The login fails and returns the user to the login screen with no indication of what was wrong. Other users can login. But no users get the Unity Launcher. Ctrl-Alt-T will not usually open a terminal and if it does the terminal is not functional. Desktop functionality is extremely limited. This affects new users created after the upgrade as well as existing users. All users can loginto a tty screen. Frequently error messages are generated shortly after opening a session indicitating the compiz has crashed with a segmentaion fault. Ocassionally X.org will cause a segmentation fault. A search of the logs has not revealed any obvious problems. Switching to gdm resolves the issues but the login screen is changed to the older version. I have read a number older similar bugs but they all seem to be closed. It's possible this could be a configuration issue but the original install was pretty standard, except for a Gnome Desktop Theme resembling Windows XP, which should not affect the new users.. ** Affects: lightdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1045102 Title: Lightdm causing segmentation faults To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightdm/+bug/1045102/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
