Basically you can also cache some of the networked authentication
information. Take a look at ccreds pam module for instance, it handles
at least partially the LDAP slowness if your servers have such problems.
There may be other settings or modules for other parts of your setup as
well.

I'm fairly certain this is an Active Directory problem only. We use
Active Directory where I work, and I experience the same problem
periodically on a Windows XP machine.

In the end I think this was a problem with our windows servers. But I
was a bit disappointed that after filing these bugs, no-one seemed to
notice my reports. Is there something I should do differently the next
time to make sure my report gets the proper attention?
