I fixed this, It was something related to the upgrade transition between
edgy => feisty. I ended up doing a reinstall, and it works fine.

the current version in the repository. That is the output I'm referring to,
I purged the entire installation I had, and installed the one from the
repository, and the output is the same

Cannot confirm with mplayer 1.0~rc1-0ubuntu9:
$ ldd /usr/bin/mplayer | grep libdirect
libdirectfb-0.9.so.25 => /usr/lib/libdirectfb-0.9.so.25 (0xb612)

Which version of the mplayer package do you have? The latest one is
definitely linked against .25.
