I'm not sure. Maybe in your cases Thunar is started before some gvfs
daemons have been initialized, so the check to verify that trash:// and
network:// are supported fails...

For me on quantal 32bits network and trash icons are never shown in thunar
The only solution is to kill the thunar daemon as it's said in this bug report
and then it's ok
