This is quite possibly related to Bug #1049210, can you try the updated
telepathy-logger package from that bug ( should be quantal-proposed
soon) and see if that resolves the issue.

The problem occures with the combination of gnome-shell and empathy but
I had to choose only one package...
This may not happen everytime.
When some one sends you a message in empathy, you will get a
notification
Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.
