I tried several reboots without any problems so far.
If I remember right this kernel is the one where the modesetting rework landed.

Okay, this kernel also works.
$ uname -r
3.5.5-030505-generic
Worth noting, if I boot from a working kernel to the broken one, the first boot
seem to go smooth.
If I reboot from the broken kernel into the broken kernel lightdm doesn't show
up.
I hope my observations are somehow helpful.

No, booting into an older Kernel (3.5.0-16-generic) didn't solve the problem.
