After upgrading to xubuntu 12.10, the machine will sometimes have random
kernel panics, saying that there is a fatal exception in interrupt and
that it is not syncing.
This is reproducible for me. Whenever I sudo modprobe -r
ill, the next step is to perform a Ubuntu kernel bisect from 3.2.0-23.36 to
3.5.0-17.28, in order to identify the last good Ubuntu kernel version, and
first bad one. As per https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/quantal/+source/linux we
have:
3.2.0-23.36
3.2.0-24.37
3.4.0-1.1
3.4.0-1.2
ill, could you please test for this in a Precise live environment via

I have never had to do modprobe -r mceusb in previous releases since
they didn't ignore my blacklist.conf, so I don't know if they had that
problem or not when doing that certain command.

I didn't save the terminal output when I installed 3.7. It installed
without errors after I uninstalled nvidia, but still wouldn't boot like
the 3.6 version.

I never built it. I only installed it from the mainline site, and then
there was no output on screen after I attempted to boot it, same as 3.6.
The screen only said that sparse files aren't allowed because of grub
and it stopped booting.

The 3.6 kernels do not boot on my computer.

It would be very helpful if you can capture a screen shot of the panic

the mainline kernel?
As well, regarding your comments
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
