As gorgekara found out in the previous comment, the problem was that at
that time there was no fglrx driver available for current X.org. In
current Ubuntu releases it works again, so closing this.

Ok about my problem with the display drivers:
This seems to be a very common problem for newer versions Ubuntu > 12.10.
The problem seems to be caused by the new version of xserver:

I'm not completely sure, but I think it's the same problem I have.
Looking at Additional Drivers I can see my the options for the Ati
Graphic Card and the Wi-Fi card. But when I plug in my Hauppage DVB-T
that needs proprietary drivers to work, it isn't listed in Additional
Drivers though they are a
I tried adding the Canonical Parners repo with no luck. I also tried
installing fglrx through the Software Center which (as Corey mentioned
with his NVIDIA card) set low resolution on my laptop monitor.

On my system, I have a NVIDIA card that in all past releases, jockey
would notify me of missing proprietary updates. Now, it says none in use
and even when I install nvidia-current-updates it shows in a low
resolution 1024x768 mode on a 1440x900 monitor.

This just happened to me, too. I used to be able to swith from ubuntu
drivers to proprietary drivers (i've been testing battery life)... but
today when i tried to switch to proprietary drivers, after clicking
"apply changes", the window went blank and now it says "no proprietary
drivers available",
Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.
