change anything?
If not, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of
the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-ver
After testing with "linux-
image-3.8.0-030800rc6-generic_3.8.0-030800rc6.201301312135_amd64" - the
only available device for audio is "Dummy Output" and this produces 0
audio (when using the test menu via sound settings). Checked jockey,
nothing found there either.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.7 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both
the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.
