I will try and get around to testing the LiveCD, although it may not be this
weekend. However, I am currently running the Hardy 2.6.24-19-386 #1 Wed Aug
20 21:59:50 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux and have not had the kernel panic issue
since upgrading to Hardy, or some time before that.

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:
1) If you are comfortable
Can someone please confirm that this has been fixed? I believe it has
been fixed in 2.6.22, i.e. Gutsy.

Exactly the same problem for me. I have a Toshiba A45.
Uname gives:

After testing this with the 2.6.22 kernel in gutsy, I think this bug
might have been fixed, but this should be confirmed.

I'd like to add that I have exactly the same symptoms.
Uname -a gives:
Linux dan-laptop 2.6.20-15-generic #2 SMP Sun Apr 15 07:36:31 UTC 2007 i686

lspci dmesg output attached.
Mine's also a Toshiba, a Tecra A2.

Here is the additional information. Additionally, I noticed that the
caps lock button blinks when this happens. The only option I have is to
hard shutdown the machine at the panic. This message did not appear in
dmesg or in any logs after the reboot.
