Bugged, I was afraid it was going to be something like that.
libncurses5:i386 was already installed when things were failing and
since it is a 32 bit binary (file filename confirms ELF 32-bit LSB
executable, dynamically linked and using shared links) I
If you have a 64-bit system, then lib64ncurses5 is really just
libncurses5. The lib64ncurses5 package is for installing the 64-bit
version on a 32-bit system.
If you install the 32-bit version, the 32-bit program should run:
sudo apt-get install libncurses5:i386
