Upgraded to 13.04. Problem solved.
Quantal degraded significantly, for me, from 12.04. 13.04, so far, is
outstanding.

Hi Christopher,
I really do appreciate your assistance but I have tried a number of these
kernels and we are getting no where.
I am seriously considering going back to 12.04.
Laptop suspend is an essential function and it is disappointing that it
continually breaks with each new release. There
Damian Beltrami, thank you for testing the requested kernel. Could you

Hi Christopher,
I had mixed results. I can suspend from the menu but the laptop did not
suspend when closing the lid.
However the laptop will not resume after suspend.
On the brightside my keyboard backlighting is working again with the 3.8
mainline.

I have a Sony Vaio VPCS137GG laptop with a clean install of the 12.10
system.
Suspend is broken (from the menu or laptop lid close). The only solution
is to force a power down after the laptop hangs in during the suspend
process

Yes, suspend and resume work perfectly with Precise 12.04.
I understand that this report relates to my system only and I thank you
for your assistance. I was just highlighting that there seems to be
others having the same problem as me with 12.10.
Thanks,
Damian

No. I have always been able to suspend and resume. The last few
releases has seen the issue appear at release time but it has been
addressed shortly after.
Frankly, Suspend/Resume is a critical function and it is disappointing
that it continues to be an issue with each new release. I note that
Damian Beltrami, thank you for attempting to test the newest mainline
kernel. Did this problem not occur in a release prior to Quantal?

HI Christopher,
I tested with 3.7-rc6.
I can boot but, again, Unity does not load (no launcher or top panel).
Also my input devices do not work (no response to keyboard, mouse responds but
freezes) so I cannot use the system.
I closed the lid on the laptop and there is no response from the syst

Hi Christopher,
I tested v3.7-rc5-raring.
I cannot test fully as my display drivers (nouveau or Nvidia drivers)
and/or Unity do not work properly. Unity does not load although I can
run applicatons (no window manager controls)
However, the laptop does suspend properly with this Kernel.
