Public bug reported:

I have a Lenovo T520 and a Samsung LED monitor running in dual-monitor
mode (not mirrored). I also use an IOGEAR 2 Port USB Cable KVM Switch
with Audio and Mic (GCS72U) to share the screen with another machine,
although it is almost always just selecting the Lenovo laptop with the
screen.

When I am using the laptop without the external monitor everything looks
great, but then when I plug the external monitor in the resolution on
the monitor is incorrect and is low resolution as well as the top panel
being cut off a little (see the attached screenshot). The resolution on
the laptop screen is correct and the dual monitor setting is correct
(external screen on the left, laptop screen on the right).

If I then load the displays applet in the Settings, the external monitor
switches to the correct resolution without me clicking on anything in
the displays applet (just loading it fixes the resolution).

I also noticed today that if I plug in the external monitor (and thus
see the incorrect resolution) and leave it without going to the displays
applet, if I leave it for around 3 - 5 mins it will automatically switch
to the correct resolution without me doing anything.
