Cant this be done automatically. What I mean is, in Windows there is no
need for me to do all this stuff to make my touch pad work, it works by
default! Any way lets see how 7.10 does on18th Oct.

OK these were the steps I did
1. I suspended my computer, when I want to wake my Lenovo 3000 up I did step 2
2. The NumLock was ON so I toggled it and my touch pad wasn't working
3. I restarted X server using ctrl+alt+bckspace
Result : My toch pad did not work. I had to restart my notepad for

I'm sorry, I reported wrong in last comment. I am able to toggle the
Num-lock after suspension, and can log in. But there is another problem.

Does your laptopt have an LED indicator of the Num-lock status? What
happens if you try to turn it off by hitting the numlock key while the
password box is visible?

The problem is num lock getting turned on. In my laptop when num lock is
on characters such as U,I,O,P,J,K,L,M gets translated as
4,5,6,*,1,2,3,0.
And while trying to login in tty2 I was able to turn off num lock and
login, in graphical mode that wasn't possible.

better. Have you tried disabling number lock? Could you also try
switching to tty[1-4] via Ctrl+Alt+F2 and type there to see if the
